St. Jude Children's Cancer Research Hospital, founded by Danny Thomas, treats
about 160 patients everyday on an outpatient basis and maintains 56 inpatient
beds. It is the first institution established for the sole purpose of
conducting basic and clinical research into catastrophic childhood diseases,
mainly cancer.
It opened in 1962 and has treated more than 19,000 children from across the
United States and 60 foreign countries. The hospital's daily operating costs
are approximately $715,200, which are primarily covered by public
contributions. For more than 25 years, Delta Delta Delta's philanthropic
mission has been to help fight childhood cancer. Tri Deltas across the nation
have conducted fundraisers, donated money and volunteered their time for
research, support, and treatment of this catastrophic childhood disease. Since
1974, Tri Deltas have raised more than $10 million in support of children's
cancer hospitals, research facilities and cancer camps.

A partner since 1999, Tri Delta has contributed financial and volunteer
support to the research and treatment of childhood cancers at local,
national, and international levels. In September 2002, Tri Delta took on a
new challenge and committed a $1 million endowment over four years to the
hospital's Teen Room, a space at St. Jude reserved only for teenage
patients. To date, Tri Delta members have raised more than $1 million and
are completing their endowment in May 2005 - a full year ahead of schedule.
